For the time (3)…
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in
the Lord.
Primary Text
“For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate
(endure) sound and wholesome
instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying],
they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable
number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and
to foster the errors they hold, And will turn aside from hearing the truth and
wander off into myths and man-made
fictions.”” 2 Timothy 4v3-4 (AMP)
I am reminded of Judges 21v25 where the Bible says “In those
days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own
eyes.” In this time of itching ears, it seems people want to do what they like,
and seek after those teachers who will tell them what they want to hear. Do you
find yourself being offended at the Word of God and beginning to seek only
those who will tell you what you want to hear? 2 Timothy 3v13-17 (KJV) says
“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being
deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been
assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou
hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation
through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration
of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto
all good works.” Be careful that you do not become one of those who turn away
from the truth and be deceived, or be a deceiver yourself. God is faithful, and
He wants us to be partakers of His holiness. Sometimes He reproves us, but it
is those He loves and deals with as sons that He reproves (Hebrews 12v5-11).
Don’t be offended at the Word, and receive it with humility that it might
change you (James 1v21-22).
Supplementary Text
“You’re going to find that there will be times when people
will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk
food – catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They’ll turn their backs on
truth and chase mirages. But you – keep your eye on what you’re doing; accept
the hard times along with the good; keep the Message alive; do a thorough job
as God’s servant.” 2 Timothy 4v3-5 (MSG)
Prayer
Heavenly Father we thank You so much for Your Word. Father,
we pray for the grace to endure sound teaching and instruction and not be
offended by Your Word, in Jesus name, amen.
