A Prayer
Dearly Beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for salvation and for the fact that we can walk with Him, know His will and please Him. Paul writes in Colossians 1v89 that after he heard that the Colossians had received the Good news and the love of the Holy Spirit, he prayed for them unceasingly. Today, we look at part of that prayer from Colossians 1v9-10 with the view that we also can pray them for ourselves and for others.
Classic Amplified Version
“9 For this reason we also, from the day we heard of
it, have not ceased to pray and make [[a]special] request for you, [asking]
that you may be filled with the [b]full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will
in all spiritual wisdom [[c]in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes
of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things— 10 That you
may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully
pleasing to Him and [d]desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in
every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of
God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, [e]acquaintance, and
recognition].”
The Living Bible
“9 So ever since we first heard about you we have kept
on praying and asking God to help you understand what he wants you to do;
asking him to make you wise about spiritual things; 10 and asking that the way
you live will always please the Lord and honor him, so that you will always be
doing good, kind things for others, while all the time you are learning to know
God better and better.”
The Message
“9-10 Be assured that from the first day we heard of
you, we haven’t stopped praying for you, asking God to give you wise minds and
spirits attuned to his will, and so acquire a thorough understanding of the
ways in which God works. We pray that you’ll live well for the Master, making
him proud of you as you work hard in his orchard. As you learn more and more
how God works, you will learn how to do your work.”
Praise the Lord.
