Children of God
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“See
what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called
children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us
is that it did not know Him.” 1 John 3v1 (NIV)
For
some reason there are some attributes that members of the same family tend to
imbibe consciously and unconsciously. Sometimes it is a physical attribute that
makes you know that this person is of the same family, at other times, it might
be certain values or character traits. As children of God, we begin to be like
Him. We are given the Holy Spirit to live in us and be in us, and we begin to
exhibit the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5v22-23). We are
also being conformed to the image of our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8v29). We
are encouraged to be holy as our Father in heaven is. 1 Peter 1v15-16 (AMP)
saying “But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves be holy in all
your conduct and manner of living. For it is written, You shall be holy, for I
am holy. And we enjoy a sweet fellowship with Him. The more we spend time with
Him through the Word, prayer, worship, we begin to know more about Him and be
transformed into who He would want us to be. We also walk in love, and know
explicitly that those who do not love, do not know Him, because He is love (1
John 4v7-8).
Supplementary Text
“”There
is a saying, ‘Love your friends and hate your enemies.’ But I say: Love your
enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way you will be acting as
true sons of your Father in heaven. For He gives His sunlight to both the evil
and the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust too. If you love
only those who love you, what good is that? Even scoundrels do that much. If
you are friendly only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else?
Even the heathen do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in
heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5v43-48, TLB).
Prayer
Father,
we thank You so much for calling us to be Your children. May we indeed walk in
ways that would please You, as true sons and daughters of God in Jesus name,
amen.
