Godly Discipline (2)
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Happy new
month. I pray this will be a blessed one for you and yours in Jesus name, amen.
Primary Text
“For
you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own
children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God,
who calls you into His kingdom and glory.” 1 Thessalonians 2v11-12 (NIV)
The
Bible tells us that God corrects those that He loves. Wouldn’t it be awful if
you were offending God and He never pointed it out for example through His
Word, His Spirit, a spiritual authority or some other means, and then the rapture
comes and it is too late for you to repent. Indeed you would say how could God
do that. And so God corrects those He loves and we are encouraged to have the
right attitude towards it. Proverbs 3v11-12 (TLB) tells us that “Young man, do
not resent it when God chastens and corrects you, for His punishment is proof
of His love. Just as a father punishes a son he delights in to make him better,
so the Lord corrects you.”
Supplementary Text
“And
have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as
a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s
discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord
disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son.”
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as His children. For what
children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined – and
everyone undergoes discipline – then you are not legitimate, not true sons and
daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us
and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of
spirits and live! They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best;
but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in His
holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on,
however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have
been trained by it.” Hebrews 12v5-11 (NIV)
Prayer
Father,
I thank You for Your training and discipline. I pray that I would indeed submit
to it and bear it well and enjoy the harvest of righteousness and peace that
would come from it in Jesus name, amen.
