Heaven’s Citizens
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“But
we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are
eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior.” Philippians 3v20 (NLT)
As
believers, though we live on earth, we have our citizenship in heaven. Prior to
being Christians, we were and are still loved of God, but we were not members
of the family of God. But now, the Bible tells us that “Now you are no longer
strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God’s very
own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with
every other Christian.” Praise the Lord for that. To a certain extent, citizens
of a particular country can be identified by others. For example, they might look
a certain way, have a common language, certain mannerisms, modes of dressing,
way of thinking, a particular value system, types of food, a national anthem,
colours, and so on. You have probably been in a situation where after a while
someone would ask you where you are from and say they guessed as much. This is
because you exhibit the traits of that country. Being citizens of heaven, we
are encouraged to live as such. Philippians 1v27 (NLT) says “… Above all, you
must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of
the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear
about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one
purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.” For we as
citizens of heaven and the Kingdom, God is the Sovereign Ruler, and we can say
that the Bible is the constitution.
Supplementary Text
“All
who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will
never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they
will be citizens in the city of my God – the new Jerusalem that comes down from
heaven from my God. And I will also write on them My new name.” Revelations
3v12 (NLT)
