Watch that Thought (7)
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank the
Lord because this is the day that He has made, and we shall rejoice and be glad
in it. He is our God, our shield, our exceeding great reward. Hallelujah. The
Bible exhorts us on things that we should think about in Philippians 4v8. One
thing we are told to think of are things that are of good report (KJV). Other
translations call it “kind and winsome and gracious” (AMP); “fine, good things
in others” (TLB); “admirable” (NLT); and “compelling, gracious” (MSG).
Today,
it seems like there is hardly a moment that goes by when there is nothing to
think about. If it is not a particular work that you have to do, it is
something you are thinking of doing, otherwise, there are different types of
things that can entertain and occupy your thoughts including television
programs, games, the internet, the news, books… How then can we fix our minds
on things that are of good report? For one, we can meditate on Scripture. “And
David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew
him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” (2 Samuel 9v1, KJV). Now this act of David
is of good report. One can then ask, who was Saul? Who was Jonathan? Why would
David want to show kindness? And if you already know of the relationship
between Saul and David, then you can ask, why would David want to do that even
after all that Saul did to him. What was the relationship between David and
Jonathan? How can I also do something that is of good report? This helps you to
fix your thoughts, and weigh things of good report.
We
can choose to meditate on who God is and all He has done for us. Psalm 119v14
(KJV) says “I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all
riches.” Amen. There are so many things that God has done for us that we can
choose to remember the “years of the right hand of the LORD” (Psalm 77v10). We
can also choose to meditate on good things about others instead of thinking on
the negative things. The Message Bible says of things we should think of should
be “… the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise,
not things to curse.” (Philippians 4v8-9). How different our outlook on life
would be if we indeed think and meditate and fix our minds on things that are
of good report, winsome, and admirable.
Prayer
Father,
we thank You for this day. Father I pray for a yearning, a desire and grace to
meditate on Your Word and on things that are of good report in Jesus name,
amen.
