The Gain in Dying
Dearly
beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. In Philippians
1v21 (AMPC), Paul writes “For me to live is Christ [His life in
me], and to die is gain [the gain of the glory of eternity].” Often, a lot of sorrow is associated with dying,
but here, Paul is saying there is gain to be had in dying – the gain of the
glory of eternity. Hallelujah. Now we know that God’s heart is touched when a
saint dies, and He doesn’t let them die lightly; the Bible saying “Precious (important and no light matter) in the sight of the Lord is the
death of His saints (His loving ones)” (Psalm
116v15, AMPC). But as believers, we have hope even in death, and the
understanding that we are being kept for something better and away from evil. Isaiah 57:1 (KJV) says “The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and
merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away
from the evil to come.”
Again, Paul
shows us how believers should comfort one another in the face of death. He says
in 1 Thessalonians 4v15-18 (TLB) that “I can tell you this
directly from the Lord: that we who are still living when the Lord returns will
not rise to meet him ahead of those who are in their graves. For the Lord
himself will come down from heaven with a mighty shout and with the
soul-stirring cry of the archangel and the great trumpet-call of God. And the
believers who are dead will be the first to rise to meet the Lord. Then we
who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up with them in the
clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. So comfort
and encourage each other with this news.” Amen.
Prayer
Father God,
we thank You for this day. We thank You for we are all very dear to You and
death is not a light thing with You. We thank You again for the hope that we have
even in the world to come, and that those who have gone on, we will see them
again. Help us to stay comforted and encouraged with this realization, and to
comfort others, in Jesus name, amen.
