“The Ordinary”

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. we thank God because this is the day that He has made and we can rejoice and be glad in it. I was encouraged this day not to belittle the ordinary. What do I mean? Sometimes we go through life and we think we are just ordinary, doing the ordinary things, everything around us is the same old thing, nothing exciting is happening. But do we realize that God is always working, even in what seems ordinary?

Let us look at a few examples, Mary the mother of Jesus was going about her “ordinary” life, when the angel of the Lord appeared to her. David was going about his “ordinary” life when God found him a man after His own heart and had him anointed to be king. Gideon was going about his ordinary life when the angel appeared to him that he would lead Israel to victory. Psalm 103 exhorts us to bless the Lord and not forget His benefits which include – “Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.” (v3-5, NKJV). All these things are not ordinary J.

In my language, we have a prayer that says may we all wake up one by one. The fact is if everyone wakes up at the same time, then something horrific is probably happening – you hear a loud sound, or shout or noise, which is most times not good. God is at work in our daily waking up separately, going about our activities, seeking His face and that He be glorified. Let us not belittle this ordinary, but know that God is at work in them, and He is at work in us giving us both the willingness and the ability to please Him. Amen.

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for each day that You make and give to us. We thank You for You are with us. Help us to see You at work in us and around us, that we may appreciate them all, and that we do not just see things as ordinary. This we pray in Jesus name, amen.
