Prayer – a sure weapon in suffering
Hello everyone,
How are you doing?
Primary Text
“And
if we are [His] children, then we are [His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow
heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His
suffering if we are to share His glory.” Romans 8v17 (AMP)
But what then are we to do when we are going through
the sufferings of Christ? As a child of God, one of the most important weapons
we have is prayer. 1 Peter 4v7 (AMP) says “Casting the whole of your care [all
your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him,
for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” Jesus
exemplified this at the Garden of Gethsemane where Matthew 26v36-44 (NLT) says “Then
Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and He said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James
and John, and He became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul
is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”
He went on a little farther and bowed with His face to
the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let
this cup of suffering be taken away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done,
not Mine.” Then He returned to the disciples and
found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch
with Me even one hour? Keep
watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is
willing, but the body is weak!” Then Jesus left
them a second time and prayed, “My Father! If this cup
cannot be taken away unless I drink it, Your will be done.” When He returned to them again, He found them
sleeping, for they couldn’t keep their eyes open. So He went to pray a
third time, saying the same things again.” Beloved, are you going
through a tough time – then pray! You don’t have to bear it alone, you do would
not weary God by continually bringing it to Him. Instead you will find peace
(Philippians 4v6-7), mercy and grace (Hebrews 4v16, AMP) to help in time of
need.
Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for Your Word. We thank
You for Your help in ages past. Thank You for in Christ is both the suffering
and the consolation. We come boldly before Your throne of grace this day to ask
for mercy for our failures and grace to help in good time for every need. Help
us with the things that we struggle with o God, and let Your name alone be
glorified in our lives in Jesus name, amen.
