Good's Help
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on
this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“May our Lord Jesus
Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting
comfort and hope, which we don’t deserve, comfort your hearts with all comfort,
and help you in every good thing you say and do.” 2 Thessalonians 2v16-17 (TLB)
I find it amazing and
encouraging that a special prayer is here being rendered for help to do good
works and say good words. In today’s world, “good” is often scorned at. You
hear people make jests of those who do good by using such words as “goody two shoes”
or “goody goody” as though those doing good were in the wrong. It sometimes
even sounds cool not to say good things. Malachi 3v13-15 (NLT) says “”You have
said terrible things about Me,” says the LORD. “But you say, ‘What do you mean?
What have we said against You?’ “You have said, ‘What’s the use of serving God?
What have we gained by obeying His commands or by trying to show the LORD of
Heaven’s Armies that we are sorry for our sins? From now on we will call the
arrogant blessed. For those who do evil get rich, and those who dare God to
punish them suffer no harm.’” Yet as believers, we were created to do good
things; our Lord Jesus being an examplar of One who went about doing good.
Ephesians 2v10 (NIV) saying “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ
Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” while Acts
10v38 (NIV) tells us “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit
and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the
power of the devil, because God was with Him.”
Supplementary Text
“So then, as occasion
and opportunity open up to us, let us do good [morally] to all people [not only
being useful or profitable to them, but also doing what is for their spiritual
good and advantage]. Be mindful to be a blessing, especially to those of the
household of faith [those who belong to God’s family with you, the believers].”
Galatians 6v10 (AMP)
Prayer
Father, we thank You
because You are a good God. We pray that You will help us in every good thing we
say and do, that we would be a blessing to all those we come across and that
those good things You before planned that we should do, that we would indeed do
them to the glory of Your name in Jesus name, amen.
