Watch that Thought (2)
Hello
everyone,
How are
you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. In Philippians
4v13, we are encouraged to think about thoughts that are honest, or, honorable,
or noble.
Primary Text
“Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,... think on
these things.” Philippians 4v8 (KJV)
We are
to fix our thoughts on things that are honest. What does it mean to be honest?
Some of the meanings for honest are – “honorable in principles, intentions, and
actions; upright, a fair person”; “showing uprightness and fairness”; “gained
or obtained fairly”; “sincere, frank”; “genuine or unadulterated”; “not given
to lying, cheating, stealing, etc; trustworthy” “not false or misleading”. Some
of the antonyms for it are “dishonest” and “corrupt.” (Ref 1). There is this
saying that goes, “Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your
words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it
becomes your destiny” (Ref. 2). What are you thinking about? Are they honest?
Be careful to keep your thoughts honest. Do not allow dishonest and corrupt
thoughts to come in. Imagine Lot’s daughters who eventually made their father
drunk and slept with him (Genesis 19v30-38). Their actions probably started
with a thought. Imagine Joseph’s brothers who were jealous of him, and sold him
into slavery, it probably started with a thought (Genesis 37). Imagine
Potiphar’s wife who wanted to sleep with Joseph, probably started with a
thought (Genesis 39v6-12). Watch your thoughts. Irrespective of what others are
doing and what you are seeing in society, make sure you fix your thoughts on
things that are honest.
Supplementary Text
“Conduct
yourselves properly (honorably, righteously) among the Gentiles, so that,
although they may slander you as evildoers, [yet] they may be witnessing your
good deeds [come to] glorify God in the day of inspection [when God shall look
upon you wanderers as a pastor or shepherd looks over his flock].” 1 Peter 2v12
(AMP)
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You so much for
Your Word. Father I pray for that You will search me, and remove every
dishonest thought in me in Jesus name, amen. Fill me with honest thoughts, help
me to discern between honest, honorable, and noble thoughts, and grant me the
grace to take captive every thought that does not meet up with these. This I
pray in Jesus name, amen.
