The Knowledge of God

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.” Ephesians 1v17 (NIV)

How very important it is for everyone to know the Lord – for his or herself. It is not enough to be brought up in church, and to have your parents, friends or loved ones know God. Everyone has to make that decision for themselves. The Bible tells us of the sons of Eli (Eli was a priest in Shiloh, before Samuel), who defiled the sacrifices the people brought to the Lord and slept with the women who served at the door of the tabernacle: “The sons of Eli were base and worthless; they did not know or regard the Lord” (1 Samuel 2v12, AMP). They grew up in “church”, were around the people of God, but did not know God. They did not know His ways or what He required of them. They did not reverence God. Do you know the Lord? Parents also have a responsibility to teach children about the Lord, to know Him and to reverence Him; encouraging them to build a relationship with them. Sadly, the children of Samuel as well did not follow in his ways, but were corrupt judges who perverted justice (1 Samuel 8v3).

The knowledge of God is more important than how many riches one has or any other kind of knowledge. Our God Himself says “Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise and skillful person glory and boast in his wisdom and skill; let not the mighty and powerful person glory and boast in his strength and power; let not the person who is rich [in physical gratification and earthly wealth] glory and boast in his [temporal satisfactions and earthly] riches; But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord” (Jeremiah 9v23-24, AMPC). The Lord’s barometer is not about what we have, but if we know Him. Interestingly, that is the definition of eternal life as well – “And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent” (John 17v3, AMP). Do you know the Lord? Do you have eternal life? Accept the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart by opening the door of your heart to Him.

Supplementary Text and Prayer
“For this reason, we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things – That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].” Colossians 1v9-10 (AMPC).
