Light!
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing today? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“And
we have the prophetic word [made] firmer still. You will do well to pay close
attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dismal (squalid and dark) place,
until the day breaks through [the gloom] and the Morning Star rises (coming
into being) in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1v19 (AMP)
Have
you ever left a lamp on overnight, or had to study late into the night, or keep
awake over night, with just a lamp on or a candle, and slowly time passes 2am,
3am, 4am, 5am, 6am, and before you know it, dawn begins to come, and light
begins to seep in? The imagery given in this verse speaks of something similar,
it says that the prophetic message, or the sure word of prophesy or the words
that the prophets have spoken are completely reliable, and we should pay close
attention to them. Pay close attention to them as to this light that shines in
a dark place, it is the light you have, you are paying close attention to it,
and keep paying attention to it until the days dawns and the morning star rises
in your hearts. The radiant and brilliant Morning Star is none other but our
Lord Jesus Christ. It is interesting that Peter is writing after Jesus had
come, but he still says to pay attention to the prophetic words that have been
spoken. Why is this? Why not read solely the gospels and the letters? Because,
God spoke then too, through the prophets. Hebrews 1v1 (AMP) says “In many
separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the Truth] and in different
ways God spoke of old to [our] forefathers in and by the prophets,” Moreover:
Supplementary Text
“Above
all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the
prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in
the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried
along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1v20-21 (NIV)
Prayer
Father
we thank You for Your Word this day. We pray that You will give unto us the
Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that we may know You better. We pray this
according to Your will, knowing You have heard us, and if You have heard us
that we have that which we ask of You, and we thank You for this in Jesus name,
amen.
