False (2)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing today? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“But also [in those days] there arose false prophets among the people,
just as there will be false teachers among yourselves, who will subtly and
stealthily introduce heretical doctrines (destructive heresies), even denying and
disowning the Master Who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift
destruction. And many will follow their immoral ways and lascivious
doings; because of them the true Way will be maligned and defamed.” 2
Peter 2v1-2 (AMP)
Unfortunately as in the past where there were false prophets, there will
be false teachers even now. There are negative consequences that the work these
do bring. One of which is that they let the way of truth be evil spoken of or
slandered. Again, they introduce heretical messages, that even deny the Lord
who bought them. 1 Corinthians 11v1 (AMP) says “Pattern yourselves after me
[follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).” If a
teacher is deviating from the Word of God, denying the Lord Jesus, run far far
away from them and their message.
Second, these false teachers will also take many along with them. Child
of God, be careful, do not have itchy ears. 2 Timothy 4v3-4 (NLT) says “For a
time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome
teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who
will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the
truth and chase after myths.” Are you still enduring sound teaching or do you
find yourself being constantly offended with the Word or toying with sin and
saying God understands, and looking for messages to validate the wrong you are
doing? Jeremiah 23v16 (NIV) says “This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Do not
listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes.
They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.” Don’t
be deceived.
Supplementary Text
“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the One who called
you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel –
which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into
confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an
angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you,
let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If
anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be
under God’s curse!” Galatians 1v6-9 (NIV)
Prayer
Father we thank You for Your Word this day. We pray for the ability to
discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. We
pray that we would not have itchy ears that want to hear what we want to hear,
but that we would be open to the truth and will endure sound teaching in Jesus
name, amen.
