Distorting Scripture
Hello everyone,
How are you doing today? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as
our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He
writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His
letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and
unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own
destruction.” 2 Peter 3v15-16 (NIV)
One of the comments on verse 16 from the Dakes concordance goes
“This should not be taken as a proof that the Bible is hard to understand, or
that the common man cannot understand it, for the unlearned and unstable not
only stumble at the so-called things which are hard to comprehend by some, they
also wrest at the so-called simple scriptures to their own destruction. They
just do not want to understand and this leads to their own destruction (v 16;
Mt. 13v15-17; 1 Cor. 2:14). Even as believers when we do not understand certain
scripture, we can pray that God gives us understanding of His Word.
Remember the Holy Spirit is here to teach us all things, to
bring to remembrance what the Lord Jesus has said, and He also guides us into
all the truth (John 14v26 & 16v13). Jeremiah 33v3 (AMP) saying “Call to Me
and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do
not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand.” May we all
grow in grace and in the knowledge of God (2 Peter 3v18). May we never be those
who distort the Word of God, and don’t even try to understand.
Supplementary Text
“For this people’s
heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they
have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with
their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted,
and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears,
for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men
have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear
those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.” Matthew 13v15-17 (KJV)
Prayer
Father, we bless You, we thank You for Your Word. Help us o God
to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of God, please grant us the grace to
study to be approved of You, workmen that need not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing, correctly handling, the word of truth, in Jesus name, amen.
