In the face of disappointment (2)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and
bubbling in the Lord. Yesterday, we considered what do we do in the face of
disappointment, when our expectations are not met. Our text was taken from
Exodus 15v20-27, New Living Translation, below. The first thing we looked at
was that we should cry out to God, and not complain or grumble.
“Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a
tambourine and led all the women as they played their tambourines and
danced. And Miriam sang this song: “Sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed
gloriously; He has hurled both horse and rider into the sea.” Then Moses
led the people of Israel away from the Red Sea, and they moved out into the
desert of Shur. They traveled in this desert for three days without finding any
water. When they came to the oasis of Marah, the water was
too bitter to drink. So they called the place Marah (which means “bitter”). Then
the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?”
they demanded. So Moses cried out to
the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood.
Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was
there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as
a standard to test their faithfulness to Him. He said, “If you will listen
carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in
His sight, obeying His commands and keeping all His decrees, then I will not
make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am
the Lord who heals you.” After leaving Marah, the Israelites traveled
on to the oasis of Elim, where they found twelve springs and seventy palm
trees. They camped there beside the water.”
Another important thing is that we should not
allow the physical to determine or sway our relationship with God and our
reaction to Him. The thirst the Israelites were feeling made them upset, and
murmur. They forgot the miracles they had seen less than a week before, how God
had delivered them from death, rescued them from over 400 years of slavery, demarcated
between them and the Egyptians. Beloved, let’s begin to remember and recall
God’s faithfulness and tendermercies. Talk to Him and see what Lord would You
have you learn from the various situations. Let it not be said of us like the
Israelites that “And forgot His works and His wonders that He had shown them”
(Psalm 78v11, Classic Amplified Version).
Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your Word and for all
that You are to us. We thank You for Your amazing love for us. Father, we once
again ask for mercy for anyway we have been complaining and murmuring. We pray
that the physical will not be our reality, but we will stay strong in You,
confident in Your love for us regardless of what we see or feel. We pray that
our default will be to talk things over with You in Jesus name, amen.
