Let the Word of God dwell in you richly
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and
bubbling in the Lord. Colossians 3v16 (Classic Amplified Version) says “Let the
word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its]
richness, as you teach and admonish and train
one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things,
and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with
[His] grace in your hearts.” The Message translation says “Let the Word of
Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your
lives….” While the New Living Translation puts it this way “Let the message
about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.”
We are told that the Word of God should dwell in
us richly, in all its richness, to have a run of the house. There are different
definitions of rich that can give us insights into what this means. Rich could mean
to have wealth or great possessions; to be abundantly supplied with resources,
means, or funds; wealthy; having wealth or valuable resources; to abound in or
with something; to be valuable, of great worth; to be costly, expensively
elegant or fine. The Word of God should be abounding in us, it should be
valuable within us, and abundantly supplied.
When something is in abundance and abounding, it
begins to flow out. When the Word of God dwells in us richly, it begins to find
expression in different areas of our lives. We can “… teach and admonish and train one another in all
insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things,
and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with
[His] grace in your hearts.” We also then have a ready weapon against the
enemy, given that the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God (Ephesians 6v17).
Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your Word this day. We
thank You because all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us
what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us
when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to
prepare and equip his people to do every good work (2 Timothy 3v16-17). Father,
give us a deep longing and thirst for You and for Your Word in Jesus name,
amen.
