Why Proverbs?

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God for His mercies and His love which He showers down on us each and every single day. The Bible tells us that it is because of the mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. Instead, they are new every morning, great is His faithfulness (Lamentations 3v22-24). This is an encouragement to say why do we read the book of Proverbs. Basically, why Proverbs? The book of Proverbs starts off by saying:

“The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
To know wisdom…” Proverbs 1v1&2

One of the many reasons we read the book of Proverbs, is to know wisdom. The dictionary describes wisdom, among other things, as:

“the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight” (www.dictionary.com)

Now, that is just one of the many reasons we read one of the many books of the Bible. On a larger scale, I came across this verse again, and it tells us that:

“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),

So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3v16-17 (Amplified Bible)

So when we go to read the Word of God, let us go with that understanding. If you need instruction, it is in the Word. If you need reproof, it is in the Word. If you are going astray and you need to be convicted of sin, the Word of God will do that. If you need to be corrected of error and to be disciplined in obedience, the Word is profitable in doing that as well. And to be trained in righteousness ☺, the Word is available for that too. Even as we go through the Word of God, I pray that we will not be hard of hearing, but would be open to what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to the Church in this day and age in Jesus name, amen.

Have a very blessed day.
