Love as Brethren – Be Kind (2)!
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in
the Lord.
Primary Text
“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of
another, love as brethren …” 1 Peter 3v8 (KJV)
God shows great kindness towards us. Psalm 116v5 (NLT) says
“How kind the LORD is! How good He is! So merciful, this God of ours!” We see
in the parable of the prodigal son how the father demonstrates love and
kindness towards his son who didn’t wait for his father to die before asking
for his portion of the father’s inheritance, then took it and squandered it.
However, when he came back home haven fallen upon difficult times, his father
welcomes him back with open arms. (Luke 15v11-32). God has been and continues
to be kind to us, demonstrating His love for us that “… While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.” (Romans 5v8, KJV). Let us be kind as well. Who are we to
be kind to? Our brethren, the poor, the needy, neighbor, even our enemies. Matthew
5v46-48 (NLT) says “If you love only those who love you, what reward is there
for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to
your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But
you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Don’t only be
kind to those who are your friends or love you, be kind even to the strangers,
and those who don’t like you. Be kind to the poor and needy. Proverbs 14v30
(MSG) says “You insult your Maker when you exploit the powerless; when you’re
kind to the poor, you honor God.” Even with our words, we can demonstrate
kindness. Proverbs 16v24 (NLT)
says “Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
Remember:
Supplementary Text
“The merciful, kind, and generous man benefits himself [for
his deeds return to bless him], but he who is cruel and callous [to the wants
of others] brings on himself retribution.” Proverbs 11v7 (AMP).
Father, I thank You for the love of God which is spread
abroad in my heart by Your Spirit. Help me to walk in that love, showing
kindness to my brethren in Jesus name, amen. Every meaness and cruelty in my
spirit, please uproot in Jesus name, amen.
