One mind
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in
the Lord.
Primary Text
“Finally, be ye all of one mind…” 1 Peter 3v8 (KJV)
“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, …” 1 Peter 3v8 (NIV)
“Finally, all [of you] should be of one and the same mind (united in spirit), …” 1 Peter 3v8 (AMP)
“Summing up: Be agreeable, …” 1 Peter 3v8 (MSG)
To be of one mind, is to be in agreement, in accord. People
can be of one mind in something evil, as we see in Psalm 83v4-5 (NIV) “Come,”
they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered
no more.” With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against You–”
That said, we can be of one mind as well in the things of the Lord. Romans
15v5-6 (KJV) says “Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be
likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one
mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The
NLT says “May God, who gives patience and encouragement, help you live in
complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.
Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to
God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. V7 says “Therefore, accept each other
just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.” God is not
the author of confusion. Though we are many, we are one body in Christ. Yes
within the body people are different – in giftings, background, sex, strengths,
weakness, nationality … but the Lord will have us be of one mind, and accepting
of one another, just as Christ accepted us. Psalm 133v1 (KJV) says “Behold, how
good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
Supplementary Text
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who
will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father,
just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world
may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave
Me, that they may be one as We are one
- I in them and You in Me – so that they may be brought to complete
unity. Then the world will know that You sent me and have loved them even as
You have loved Me.” John 17v20-23 (NIV)
Action point: The
Lord will have us be united, and be one. We have the mind of Christ, and are to
be like-minded and be accepting of one another. If you find you are constantly
in conflict with someone or something within the body of Christ, why not ask
the Lord to search your heart to show you the root cause. Ask Him for the grace
to change your mindset to think like Christ or perhaps help you to accept
others as He accepted you. And if it is something in the body, why not pray for
the body of Christ that there would be unity and we would be like-minded.
