A Lesson in Humility
Dearly Beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We continue considering how as believers we are encouraged to be humble, even using Christ as our example. Jesus says in Matthew 11v29 (NIV) “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” There are many reasons why we as believers need to be humble. First, we find that God gives grace to the humble but resists the proud. James 4v6 -7 (KJV) says “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
In addition, we
find that God pays attention to the humble and lifts them up. James 4v10-11
(AMPC) says “Therefore humble yourselves
[demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God,
that in due time He may exalt you, Casting the whole of your care [all your
anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you
affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” When we are humble before God, we recognize and
acknowledge His sovereignty, power, and ability. We can bring our cares and
worries to Him; He in turn lifts us up. This God does for the humble. The proud
exalt themselves and esteem themselves highly and may determine that they have
no need for God – God then resists them. God loves humility. Child of God, are
you far from God this day? Have you wandered away from Him? Are you resisting His
words and His wisdom? Its time to come back home and make things right with Him.
Psalm 51v17 (TLB) says “It is a broken spirit You want – remorse and penitence.
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not ignore.”
Prayer
Father, we thank
You for Your love for us, and how You keep calling us to Yourself. In anyway we
have wandered away and done our own thing, we repent. We come back to You in
Jesus name, amen.
