Reward in Humility

Dearly Beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We continue considering humility and how believers are encouraged to imbibe it. Jesus says in Matthew 11v29 (NIV) “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” The Bible helps us to understand that there are many rewards in humility. Apart from the fact that God gives grace to the humble while resisting the proud (James 4v6), we find that honor comes to the humble. Let us consider a few verses on this:

Proverbs 15v33 (KJV): “The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Proverbs 29v23 (AMPC): “A man’s pride will bring him low, but he who is of a humble spirit will obtain honor.

Luke 14v11 (TLB): “For everyone who tries to honor himself shall be humbled; and he who humbles himself shall be honored.”

In scripture, we find people who walked with the Lord in humility, for example David. David cried unto God continually for help and when he went in the wrong direction, he was quick to repent. He was someone who would acknowledge God and involve Him in the things that concerned him, and we can say David was indeed honoured. Synonyms for honour include award, respect, and remembrance.  Child of God, honour awaits those who are humble.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You so much for this day. We thank You for Your goodness and Your grace. We thank You because You honour the humble. We bow before You, acknowledging You and declaring that You are our God. May we truly exhibit humility in all our ways in Jesus name, amen.
