Obedience (1)
Hello everybody,
How are you doing on this 2nd day (or 3rd) day of the new month. I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God indeed for bringing us to the 12th month of the year 2011. Thank You Lord in Jesus name, amen. A friend of mine shared a piece on obedience, and I thought to share it with us.
He writes:
Lately the Lord has been speaking to me about obedience and I’d like to share some of this with you.
The opposite of obedience as you know is disobedience. It’s important to note that sin and death came into this world as a result of Adam and Eve disobeying God in the Garden of Eden. God told man that he can eat of any fruit of the Garden except the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:16-18). The devil deceived man and man disobeyed God. The consequences have been far reaching. All of the manifestations of sin – hatred, war, death all came about as a result of that singular act of disobedience.
Obedience however is more than just a way of “staying out of trouble”. Obedience opens up a river of blessings in the life of the obedient. In my life, I have seen that whenever I have obeyed God, especially when it wasn’t easy, there has been a blessing that followed. Sometimes the blessing might not seem related to the act of obedience but by God’s grace we have a witness in our hearts.
One thing the Holy Spirit is showing me is that many times when we think of obedience we think of difficult things that we don’t want to do but God is asking us to do. The Lord is showing me that yes, that’s part of it but the majority of instances where we choose not to obey God, is in everyday things that are not even a big deal to us. But either because we are negligent or we just don’t care, we refuse to obey God. It could be an instruction like “Call your Mom” or “spend more time reading your bible” or “don’t go to that event”. Many times the Holy Spirit speaks and because we have not been used to hearing his voice, we ignore it or say that it’s not God speaking. But this does not absolve us from the responsibility to obey. It does not save us from the consequences of disobedience.

The Bible says:
“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” 1 Samuel 15v22 (KJV)
Has the Lord been asking you to do something, and you keep putting it off? Why don’t you get to doing it.
Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for Your word to us and all that You are to us. Father we pray for the grace to do all of Your will all of the time in Jesus name, amen.
