Discipline and Love

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text: Hebrews 12v3-6

“Think of all the hostility He endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin. And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as His children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the LORD’s discipline, and don’t give up when He corrects you. For the LORD disciplines those He loves, and He punishes each one He accepts as His child.” Hebrews 12v3-6 (NLT)

Wow! Sometimes as a child, it is easy to think that our parents are too hard on us, or they do not love us, when they correct and discipline us. It sometimes seems as though things look nicer in other people’s homes. But imagine if you were left to yourself, and allowed to have and do ANYTHING you wanted to. You probably would not have turned out the way that you did. The same way with the Lord. The Lord loves us so much that He corrects and He disciplines us. Here we are told, “… My son, do not think lightly or scorn to submit to the correction and discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage and give up and faint when you are reproved or corrected by Him;” (Hebrews 12v5, AMP). The Lord discipline is because He loves you and He wants you to be a partaker of His holiness. Is there a particular thing the Lord has been chastening or disciplining you about? Don’t lose heart! Is there something He is chastening and disciplining you to do or not do? Please submit to Him and do it.

Supplementary Text

“You must submit to and endure [correction] for discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom his father does not [thus] train and correct and discipline? Now if you are exempt from correction and left without discipline in which all [of God’s children] share, then you are illegitimate offspring and not true sons [at all]. Moreover, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we yielded [to them] and respected [them for training us]. Shall we not much more cheerfully submit to the Father of spirits and so [truly] live?” Hebrews 12v7-9 (AMP)

Prayer

Father, we bless You for Your Word. Thank You for Your love for us O God. Father, please grant me the grace to endure and submit to Your discipline and chastening in Jesus name, amen.
