Husbands – Love your wives (2)!
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope
well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary
Text
“Christ’s
love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything He does and
says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white
silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their
wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor – since they’re already “one” in
marriage. No one abuses his own body, does he? No, he feeds and pampers it. That’s
how Christ treats us, the church, since we are part of His body. And this is
why a man leaves father and mother and cherishes his wife. No longer two, they
become “one flesh.” This is a huge mystery, and I don’t pretend to understand
it all. What is clearest to me is the way Christ treats the church. And this
provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife, loving
himself in loving her, and how each wife is to honor her husband.” Ephesians
5v26-33 (MSG)
Both men and women have a huge role to
play in a marriage. For men, one of it is to love their wives, as Christ loved
the Church. Ephesians 5v25 (MSG) puts it as “… – a love marked by giving, not getting.” Romans 5v8 (NLT)
says “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us
while we were still sinners.” Even though God cannot behold iniquity, He still
loved us while we were in sin. Are you loving your wife regardless of something
that you do not like that she does or something you or she is going through or
some situation, for better or for worse? Romans 8v35-38 (AMP) says “Who shall
separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution
or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we
face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in
all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am
convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the
present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, not anything
else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is
in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That is how much Christ loves the church! In the
movie Fireproof which I highly recommend, one of the actors says “A woman is
like a rose. If you treat her right, she’ll bloom. If you don’t, she’ll wilt.”
Are you treating your wife right, not how you think it is right, but how Christ
loved the church and gave Himself for her?
Prayer
Father, we
thank You for Your Word, and pray that You will help husbands to love their
wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her, in Jesus name, amen.
