True Circumcision - Rely on Christ
Dearly beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We continue looking at the notion of true circumcision. In Philippians 3v3 (AMPC), Paul writes “For we [Christians] are the true circumcision, who worship God in spirit and by the Spirit of God and exult and glory and pride ourselves in Jesus Christ, and put no confidence or dependence [on what we are] in the flesh and on outward privileges and physical advantages and external appearances–”. The NLT says “For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort,”. Paul here is making a case about who are the real Christians, the real worshippers of God, and he makes various points.
We see
here that in addition to those who are truly circumcised worshipping God in
spirit and by the Spirit of God, they also glory and pride themselves in Jesus
Christ and on what Christ did for us. Acts 16:30-32 speaks of a jailer guarding
Paul and Silas in prison - “And he brought them out [of the dungeon] and said,
Men, what is it necessary for me to do that I may be saved? And they
answered, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ give yourself up to
Him, take yourself out of your own keeping and entrust yourself into His
keeping] and you will be saved, [and this applies both to] you and your
household as well. And they declared the Word of the Lord [the doctrine
concerning the attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of
God] to him and to all who were in his house.” Indeed, Christians are truly
circumcised because they rely on what Jesus Christ did for them for their
salvation. Have you given yourself to be totally reliant on Christ?
Prayer
Father,
we thank You for Your word this day and for calling us Your own. We thank You
for sending Jesus to die for us and salvation by believing in Him. Blessed be
Your holy name forever more in Jesus name, amen.
