Beware (5)

Dearly Beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. Matthew 7v15 (AMPC) which says “Beware of false prophets, who come to you dressed as sheep, but inside they are devouring wolves.” We continue considering the Lord’s caution to us about false prophets. Now, prophesies are in and of themselves good. 1 Thessalonians 5v20 (AMPC) says “Do not spurn the gifts and utterances of the prophets [do not depreciate prophetic revelations nor despise inspired instruction or exhortation or warning].” 2 Chronicles 20v20 (NIV) relates a message given to the children of Judah: “Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”

Furthermore, we know that prophecy are usually inspired by God. 2 Peter 1v19-22 (TPT) says “And so we have been given the prophetic word—the written message of the prophets, made more reliable and fully validated by the confirming voice of God on the Mount of Transfiguration.  And you will continue to do well if you stay focused on it. For this prophetic message is like a piercing light shining in a gloomy place until the dawning of a new day, when the Morning Star rises in your hearts. You must understand this at the outset: Interpretation of scriptural prophecy requires the Holy Spirit, for it does not originate from someone’s own imagination. No true prophecy comes from human initiative but is inspired by the moving of the Holy Spirit upon those who spoke the message that came from God. However, Jesus still tells us to beware of false prophets who would seek to deceive many.

Prayer

Father, we thank You for how You instruct us and caution us. We thank You for the prophetic ministry and prophetic words that You send to us. We pray though that we will be alert and take heed about false prophets, that we will not be deceived but be guided always by Your Word and Your Spirit in Jesus name, amen.
