Showing Compassion (3)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
The Spirit of the Lord
God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach
the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted;
He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim
liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and
of the eyes to those who are bound, To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord [the year of His
favor] and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, To grant [consolation
and joy] to those who mourn in Zion—to give them an ornament (a garland or
diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the
garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing
spirit—that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and
magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with
God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61v1-3 (AMP)
Compassion
means “a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by
misfortune, accompanied by a deep desire to alleviate the suffering” (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/compassion?s=t).
As believers, we are empowered by the power and the anointing of the Holy
Spirit to be able to act on this compassion to the glory of God’s name. Isaiah
61v1-3 above shows some of what through the anointing we can do. We see for example
when Peter and John were going to pray in the temple and a man asked them for
alms. Acts 3v3-13 (KJV) says “And Peter,
fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto
them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold
have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him
up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping
up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and
leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the
temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had
happened unto him. And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John,
all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's,
greatly wondering. And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men
of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though
by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? The God of Abraham,
and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son
Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he
was determined to let him go.” Beloved, as in the name of Jesus and the power
of the Spirit do good and heal all that are oppressed of the devil, God is
glorified and His name exalted.
Prayer
Father, we thank You
for Your Word. We pray that our eyes will be open to see opportunities where we
can show compassion and glorify Your name daily. We pray that we walk in the
power and anointing of the Spirit of Christ daily, to bring glory to the Lord,
in Jesus name, amen.
