To know Him and His voice
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and
bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“Behold,
I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I
will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelations 3v20
(KJV)
“Look!
I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will
come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Revelations 3v20 (NLT)
There are people that
you know that you begin to know their voice, their mannerisms, their
expressions e.t.c., and can tell it is them even when you cannot see them. In
the midst of a number of other voices, you can pick out which one is their own.
This comes through having a relationship with them, through friendship with
them. We know that Jesus wants to come and sup with us, He desires a
relationship with all men. But once we open that door, and begin to fellowship
with Him as friends, we move from supping with Him, to knowing Him. We move
from hearing His voice, to knowing His voice. After Jesus died, the disciples
went fishing. They were at sea, when Jesus who had risen asked, “Children, have
ye any meat?” When they answered no, He said “Cast the net on the right side of
the ship, and ye shall find.” And they obeyed and caught many fish. The
disciple whom Jesus loved said – “It is the Lord” (John 21v4-7). Oh, that we
may always be able to correctly distinguish His voice, that we may know Him and
know His ways. John 10v14 (AMP) says “I am the Good Shepherd; and I know and
recognize My own, and My own know and recognize Me—“ That is my desire –
to know Him and know His voice. But the wonderful thing is that as children of
God we have the Spirit of Christ in us, and the Lord assured us that we know
Him when He said “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another
Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and
Standby), that He may remain with you forever – The Spirit of Truth, Whom the
world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him
or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with
you [constantly] and will be in you.” John 14v16-17 (AMP)
Supplementary Text
“I
assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who does not enter by the door into
the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way (elsewhere, from some other
quarter) is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd
of the sheep. The watchman opens the door for this man, and the sheep listen to
his voice and heed it; and he calls his own sheep by name and brings
(leads) them out. When he has brought his own sheep outside, he walks on before
them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will never [on
any account] follow a stranger, but will run away from him because they do not
know the voice of strangers or recognize their call.” John 10v1-5 (AMP)
Prayer
Father, we thank You
for Your Word this day. Thank You Jesus for being our Good Shepherd. We pray for
a deep sensitivity to Your Word, to Your voice, to Your leading, to Your
Spirit, and to You. We pray we will come to know You intimately and we will
know You ways. We pray we will run from the voice of the strangers and refuse
to go in their ways in Jesus name, amen. We pray that we will be a light to our
world and that through us others will be drawn to Yourself. All this we pray in
Jesus name, amen.
