Even in Famine (2)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
““So my counsel is: Don’t worry about things—food, drink, and clothes. For you already have life and a body—and they are far more important than what to eat and wear.  Look at the birds! They don’t worry about what to eat—they don’t need to sow or reap or store up food—for your heavenly Father feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than they are. Will all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothes? Look at the field lilies! They don’t worry about theirs. Yet King Solomon in all his glory was not clothed as beautifully as they. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t He more surely care for you, O men of little faith? “So don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and He will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to. “So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time.” Matthew 6v25-34 (TLB)

The text above makes a distinction between Gentiles and the people of God. How God requires His children to act is much different from what He expects of others. God doesn’t want His children worried and anxious about what to eat, what to wear and so on. What then does He want us to do? He wants us to seek His Kingdom, seek His righteousness, to give Him first place in our lives and know that He will meet our needs. Philippians 4v6 also tells us to pray instead of being anxious. God wants us to depend on and rely on Him day by day for Him to meet our every need. The Lord’s prayer mentions ‘give us this day our daily bread.’ Psalm 37 says “I was young and now I am old and I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread.” Child of God, God cares about both you and your children. We belong to Him and are His children. He is a Father indeed. He will take care of you … even in the famine. Even in the wilderness, He was able to cater to the children of Israel. He asks us to look at the birds and the lilies of the valley – He caters and cares for them. How much more you?

Supplementary Text
“Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.” Psalm 33v18-19 (KJV)

Prayer
Father, we thank You for You are indeed our Father and our God. Thank You for You preserve our souls, Your preserve our bodies and our lives. We praise You because You are the Almighty God and the earth is Yours and the fullness thereof. Thank You because You are able to and You do preserve Your own, even in famine. Help us Lord to continue to walk in Your ways and in Your fear and to put You first in all that we do in Jesus name, amen.
