Even in Famine
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well
and bubbling in the Lord.

Now there was a famine in the land—besides
the previous famine in Abraham’s time—and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the
Philistines in Gerar. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said,
“Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay
in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For
to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm
the oath I swore to your father Abraham. I will make your descendants as
numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and
through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because
Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my
commands, my decrees and my instructions.” So Isaac stayed in Gerar.”
Genesis 26v1-6 (NIV)
God knows how to take care of His own,
regardless of where they are and what their physical environment and economy is
saying. He is God here and there and regardless of where we are He is able to
meet the needs of His own – even in famine. In the case of Isaac that we read
above, the Lord told him where to stay, not to go to Egypt, though there was a
famine, and God blessed him there. Beloved, who are you looking up to as the
source of all your needs? Who says things will be better elsewhere than where
you are? The important thing is to be always where God wants you to be. To seek
His face to show you the path He will have you go. Remember God sent Joseph
ahead to Egypt in order to save many people alive. Joseph had the Spirit of God
and wisdom from God to be able to interpret the dreams of the king that there
would be years of plenty followed by years of famine. He was also able to
prescribe and implement what needed to be done. God can go ahead and take care
of the needs of His own. Psalm 37v16-19 (KJV) says “A little that a righteous
man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked
shall be broke: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous. The LORD knoweth the days
of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be
ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.” We
find therefore that God is able to keep and does keep His people – those who
fear Him, those who hope in His mercy, those who are righteous and upright –
even in famine. How is your relationship with the Lord? Are you working in His ways
and in right standing with Him? If yes, rejoice – He will preserve you – even in
famine. If not, perhaps it is time to get right with God.
