The Bread of Life

Primary Text
“Jesus
answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because
ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God
the Father sealed.” (John 6v26-27, KJV).
God is
able to meet the needs of His own – those who believe in Him, trust in Him,
rely on Him and fear Him. He has shown that over and over again, through
Scripture and in our own lives. From the Garden of Eden where He put all the
food that Adam and Eve will need, to preserving Noah and his family in the Ark,
to providing manna and meat to the children of Israel as they went through the
wilderness. Indeed, He is the owner of Heaven and earth and a famine for us is
not a famine for Him. But beyond our physical needs, He wants to give us life
and that life is through a relationship with Him. The Prodigal Son for example
went away from the wings of his father and could not be preserved, but when we
are under the shadow of the Almighty He is able to preserve and keep us. Jesus
fed 5 thousand with five loaves, and two fishes, and there were twelve baskets
of food left over from the fragments of the bread. However, He later told the
people not to labour for food that perisheth. Jesus is
the Bread of Life, and He came to do the will of the Father: “And this is the
will of Him Who sent Me, that I should not lose any of all that He has given
Me, but that I should give new life and raise [them all] up at the
last day. For this is My Father’s will and His purpose, that
everyone who sees the Son and believes in and cleaves to and
trusts in and relies on Him should have eternal life, and
I will raise him up [from the dead] at the last day” John 6v39-40 (AMPC). God
wants us to have eternal life – that is to know Him. John 17v3 (TLB) says “And
this is the way to have eternal life—by knowing you, the only true God, and
Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth!” Hallelujah. Seek the Lord, seek
relationship with Him, seek to know Him, and relate with Him.
Supplementary Text and Prayer
“I pray
that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His
Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your
hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and
established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy
people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of
Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be
filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is
able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to
His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church
and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
