The Power of the Spirit (2)
Dearly
beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We continue
looking at Paul’s letter to the Philippians. The letter was written while he
was in prison and he had assured them that his imprisonment was beneficial to
the gospel. He then goes on to mention the power of prayer and the Spirit of
God by saying “ I am going to keep on being glad, for I know that as you pray for me,
and as the Holy Spirit helps me, this is all going to turn out for my good” (Philippians
1v19, TPT). Here, the Holy Spirit is depicted as a helper, and indeed He
is. The Holy Spirit also helps to bring
about God’s purposes for our lives.
We see this
through scripture, where people were anointed and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
In Luke 1, after Mary was told by an angel that she would be having the child
of God, and she wondered, how would this be, given that I do not know a man.
The response was: “Then the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will
come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a
shining cloud]; and so the holy (pure, sinless) Thing (Offspring) which shall
be born of you will be called the Son of God.” Hallelujah. Acts 10v38 (TPT) tells us that “Jesus of Nazareth was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit and with
great power. He did wonderful things for others and divinely healed all who
were under the tyranny of the devil, for God had anointed him.” Jesus cautioned the disciples not to leave
Jerusalem until the power of God had come upon them. “But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the
Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and
all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth” (Acts 1v8; AMPC). Hallelujah, We have the Spirit
of God in us and with us and He helps to bring about God’s purposes. He is also
here to help us. Let’s develop intimacy with the Spirit of God.
Prayer
Father, we
thank You for this day. We thank You for Your Spirit in us and with us. We pray
that we will experience intimacy and fellowship with You Spirit of Truth. We
desire to be guided by You, to be helped by You, to be comforted by You. Help
us o Spirit of God, and may we be sensitive to and heed to Your voice and Your
leading in Jesus name, amen.
