Spiritual Gifts

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit tells the Corinthians that, “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant” (v1, KJV). What are spiritual gifts? Some translations explain them this way: special abilities, special endowments of supernatural energy, extraordinary powers distinguishing certain Christians due to the power of divine grace operating in their souls by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12 v 1, 4).

Child of God, are you ignorant about spiritual gifts? Concerning these gifts that are given by the Spirit, we are not to be unaware, uninformed, and badly informed. Why is this? One reason is because these gifts are given by the Holy Spirit for our profit, and for the good of all. God Himself deems it fit for the body of Christ to have. Indeed, in 1 Corinthians 12v31, we are told to covet earnestly the best (most important) gifts. However, ignorance about the existence of a thing means that people may not even desire them.

What are some of these gifts? 1 Corinthians 12v8-10 (KJV) highlights some of them: “For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:” Of great importance though is that it is the Holy Spirit who is the Giver of these gifts; and that He divides it to all as He will. 1 Corinthians 12v11 (AMPC) says “All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses.” Praise the Lord.

Prayer

Our Father and our God, we thank You so much for Your Word. Thank You for the gifts of the Spirit that You give to Your church, for the profit of all. We are asking that You will release these gifts upon Your church in a mighty way at this time in the name of Jesus. We covet them Lord and ask that You will divide it to us as You will. Blessed be Your Holy Name forevermore, in Jesus name, amen.
