A Study of Psalm 3 (7)

Dearly Beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We have been looking at Psalm 3 over the past couple of days, and we continue doing so today. Psalm 3v1-4 (AMPC) say “Lord, how they are increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are saying of me, There is no help for him in God. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears and answers me out of His holy hill. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!” In Psalm 3v1-2, the Psalmist sets out the scenario of what he is going through – trouble all around, skepticism from people e.t.c. In verse 3, he declares who God is to Him – his shield, glory and the lifter of his head.

In verse 4, David then mentions what he does and what God’s response is. On his part – he cries out to God, and what does God do? God responds. Philippians 4v6-7 (TPT) is explicit in encouraging us to not worry but pray in every situation that troubles us: “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” The Living Bible puts it this way “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.
