The face of love – Patience

In today’s rapidly globalizing and technological world, we want things to be done quick, quick, and fast, fast. For instance, when you have become used to really fast bandwidth internet, you can get real impatient when you are trying to get something done, and all you see is the internet icon depicting loading, loading, loading. When the bus doesn’t come on schedule, you can get irritable. Add in a very cold or very hot day into the equation ☺ When your friend is running late and you have everything planned out, you can get impatient. Oh, so many opportunities present themselves each day for us not to be patient, and before we know it we begin to complain, and grumble and become irritable. Sometimes it could be something that appears to be pretty legitimate like – getting to Church on time, or making an appointment, and someone else is dilly dallying. How do we reconcile the two? The Bible tells us that:

“Charity suffereth long,…” 1 Corinthians 13v4 (King James Version)
“Love is patient…” 1 Corinthians 13v4 (New Living Translation)

Patient, according to the dictionary is “bearing provocation, annoyance, misfortune, delay, hardship, pain, e.t.c., with fortitude and calm and without complaint, anger, or the like.” Another definition is “quietly and steadily persevering or diligent, esp. in detail or exactness: a patient worker.” (Reference: www.dictionary.com)
Wow. And the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5v5), so we do have the power to love and in essence to be patient. So will you? The thing is provocation, and annoyance, and the like will come, but how will you bear it. Patiently or impatiently? In love, or not so lovingly☺

Have a very blessed day.

Prayer: Lord, help me to exercise and put into practice the love that You have already placed in my heart in Jesus name, amen. Help me to be patient, in Jesus mighty name I pray, amen.

Verses for thought:

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1v2-4
