A Little Leaven
Hello
everyone,
How
are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. We thank God
for His goodness, His faithfulness, and lovingkindness.
Primary Text
“[About
the condition of your church] your boasting is not good [indeed, it is most
unseemly and entirely out of place]. Do you not know that [just] a little
leaven will ferment the whole lump [of dough]?”
A
little white lie; a little thought; a little rudeness; a little hate. Paul says
do you not know a little leaven will ferment the whole lump of dough. Paul
continues his letter to the church in Corinth talking of the man who was
sleeping with his father’s wife. The Dakes Bible makes this commentary “If you
permit this incestuous person to continue in your midst without judgment, the
whole church will become ruined by moral impurities.” Because if the church
kept permitting it, before long, it will spread. I am reminded of the verse “Be
not deceived, evil communications corrupt good manners” (1 Corinthians 15v33,
KJV). Beloved, what are you permitting in your life, in your home, to associate
with your children, in the church? Remember, a little leaven will ferment the
whole lump!
Supplementary Text
“So
put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do
with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for
a greedy person is an idolater, worshipping the things of this world. Because
of these sins, the anger of God is coming. You used to do these things when
your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of
anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each
other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked
deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator
and become like Him. In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or
Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free.
Christ is all that matters, and He lives in all of us.” Colossians 3v5-11 (NLT)
