When counseled…

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.” 1 Corinthians 14v14 (KJV)

“I do not write this to shame you, but to warn and counsel you as my beloved children.” 1 Corinthians 14v14 (AMP)

How do you take chastisements and corrections? Paul here was telling the Corinthians that he wasn’t writing all what he did to make them feel bad, but to warn them. Sometimes our spiritual leaders, parents or other authority speak to us, and chastise us. How do we take to that instruction? Now, there are some instructions that we might receive that are not of God. But when you know that a counsel is genuine and of God, how do you react? Proverbs 3v11-12 (AMP) says “My son, do not despise or shrink from the chastening of the Lord [His correction by punishment or by subjection to suffering or trial]; neither be weary of or impatient about or loath or abhor His reproof, For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.” Hebrews 12v5-6 (NIV) repeats this point saying “And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son.” So, being disciplined of the Lord is a sign that He loves you and has truly taken you as a child.

Supplementary Text
“Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:” Job 5v17 (KJV)

Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your word this day. We thank You for the discipline and chastening we receive of You. We pray indeed for the grace to recognize it coming from You and to accept it well in Jesus name, amen.
