A Rescue

“And He rescued righteous Lot, greatly worn out and distressed by the wanton ways of the ungodly and lawless –” 2 Peter 2v7 (AMP)

God had decided to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. But this was also the place where Abraham’s nephew Lot, was living. Before destroying Sodom and Gomorrah though, God rescued Lot and his family from it. Unfortunately Lot’s wife looked back during the rescue mission and was changed to a pillar of salt. We are also privy to the fact that when God told Abraham of His intention to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham asked God if He would destroy the place if He found 50, 45, 40, 30, 20, 10 righteous people in it, and the LORD answered “… For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.” (Genesis 18v32). All in all, God delivered Lot from the country before it was destroyed (Genesis 19). As believers, we have also been rescued. We have been rescued from the power of darkness, Colossians 1v13-14 (NIV) saying “For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” We have also been rescued from the judgment that is to come. 1 Thessalonians 1v10 (AMP) says “And [how you] look forward to and await the coming of His Son from heaven, Whom He raised from the dead – Jesus, Who personally rescues and delivers us out of and from the wrath [bringing punishment] which is coming [upon the impenitent] and draws us to Himself [investing us with all the privileges and rewards of the new life in Christ, the Messiah].”

Prayer

Father, we thank You for Your Word and Your love and for rescuing us from the powers of darkness and bringing us into the Kingdom of Your dear Son whom You love. We do pray though that You will please send laborers into Your harvest. Please touch our friends, loved ones, family, and colleagues that do not know You. Draw them to Yourself. Let them know the truth that they might be set free. Thank You Father for we pray believing and with thanksgiving, in Jesus name, amen.
