The Ungodly (2)
Hello everyone,
How are you doing today? I hope well and
bubbling in the Lord.
Primary Text
“So the Lord knows how to save those who serve
Him when troubles come. He will hold evil people and punish them, while waiting
for the Judgment Day. That punishment is especially for those who live by doing
the evil things their sinful selves want and who hate authority. These false
teachers are bold and do anything they want. They are not afraid to speak
against the angels.” 2 Peter 2v9-10 (NCV)
The beginning of 2 Peter 2 had spoken of false
teachers who would rise, and “who will subtly and stealthily introduce heretical (destructive heresies), even denying
and disowning the Master, Who bought
them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their
immoral ways and lascivious doings;
because of them the true Way will be maligned and defamed. And in their covetousness (lust, greed) they will
exploit you with false (cunning) arguments. From of old the sentence [of
condemnation] for them has not been idle; their destruction (eternal misery)
has not been asleep.” 2 Peter 2v1-3 (AMP). The chapter goes on to tell us about
how God has rescued godly people like Lot and Noah over time, while condemning
the ungodly like Sodom and Gomorrah and reserving for judgment the angels that
sinned. Verses 9 then tell us that God knows how to deliver the godly from
trials and troubles, and to reserve the ungodly for judgment. Verse 10 speaks
particularly again to these false teachers, describing them as following their
own twisted sexual desires, and despisers of authority. Saddening as it is that
these people are within the church, we know that God sees them. These are not
people who are humble and contrite and trying to change their ways. No, not at
all, they are “… insolent egoists, they don’t hesitate to speak evil against
the most splendid of creatures.” (2 Peter 2v10, MSG). And we know that God
resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5v5).
Supplementary
Text
“Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to
write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write
about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted
once for all time to His holy people. I say this because some ungodly people
have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace
allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded
long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. So I
want to remind you, though you already know these things, that Jesus first
rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, but later He destroyed those who did
not remain faithful.” Jude 1v3-5 (NLT)
Prayer
Father, I thank You so much for Your Word.
Father, in these days, keep me from being deceived and straying from the faith
and the Truth, in Jesus name, amen.
