A Judgment

Primary Text

“For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; … The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:” 2 Peter 2v4&9 (KJV).

The Dakes Bible makes this commentary on the angels that sinned: “It does not say what sin they committed causing them to be confined to hell, but Jude 6-7 and Genesis 6:1-4 tell us that they committed fornication living with the daughters of men contrary to their own nature. These angels committed sin beyond that of falling with Lucifer, for they are now confined to hell for that sin. If all the fallen angels had committed such sin they all would now be bound in hell and none loose with the devil to fight against God in the middle of Daniel’s 70^th week, 3 ½ years before the second advent of Christ (Rev 12: 7-17). It would not be just to bind some and not all if the same sin was committed by all. Thus, it is clear that there are now classes of fallen angels – those now bound and those now loose with Satan.” Jude 1v6 (NIV) says “And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling – these He has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.” (Jude 1v6, KJV). How does this illustration apply to us today? Now 2 Peter 2v4 comes after the verses which speak of false teachers who tell lies so they can get money from people, the Bible saying that “…Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.” (2 Peter 2v4, NIV) Beloved, our God is awesome, wonderful, mighty, full of compassion and love, yet Hebrews 10v31 (KJV) says “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” So while those who are living for God, can look forward to the day of the Lord’s coming, and sing songs of Zion, and songs like “I can only imagine …” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xwzItqYmII ), for those who are living for themselves, and bringing slander to the Word of truth, oh my, oh my, oh my…

“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” Genesis 6v1-5 (KJV)

Prayer

Father we thank You for Your Word this day. We pray Father for ourselves, that You will search our hearts, and see if there is any wrong motive in us for why we do the things we do, and pray You will purge us of this. Father, remove pride, lust, greed, the fear of man, and wanting for their approval, and fill us with Your heart, and the desire to please You and see Your name glorified. Purify our motives Lord and help us to be sincere. We pray for ministers of the Word, that You will remove greed and lust far from them, and give them hearts that fear You, love You and care for the sheep in their care. We pray all this, in Jesus name, amen.
