Bastion Point

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20v3 (KJV)

I recently read a novel called Bastion Point. For the main character, Bastion Point was a place of safety, refuge, love, where she longed for. For these reasons, it was a place she wanted above all other things. Bastion Point was the place her grand parents lived and she was told by her grand father that she could inherit it if she could find “treasures that money and wit and strength cannot buy.” In a sense, Bastion Point had become an idol for her, for she felt if she had Bastion Point she would be secure, she wouldn’t have to do what she didn’t want to do, and will be well provided for. Beloved, what has become your Bastion Point? Is it a relationship, family, job, money, title/status, children? What is it that you have begun to put your trust in and feel as long as this is here, I will be fine? What is it that makes you think only of your own interests and care less about any other person? At the end of the day, the character did find those treasures, which in the words of her granddad was: “the treasure of learning what is more important in life than a house and land and the security they bring – your faith in Jesus and willingness to put others before yourself. Those are the treasures worth having.” God will have us have no other gods before Him. However, consciously or unconsciously, we might begin to elevate things before Him. Yes, we serve Him, but at the back of our minds, our safety and provision is tied to this “Bastion Point”. Let us search our hearts and repent of every way we have put other things before the Lord our God. Indeed He alone is our refuge, fortress, strength, provider and everything. He is our Rock and our Safety and it is in Him we live, and move and have our being (Acts 17v28). People will fail us; the job, money, home we cling to can fade away at anytime, but only God will always be there for us.

Supplementary Text
“Come close to God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners, get your soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery].” James 4v8 (AMP)

Prayer
Why don’t you search your heart and see if there are any “Bastion Points”, repent and recommit your life wholly to God.
