The Holy Ghost and Power (2)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
You’ll remember, friends, that when I first came to you to let you in on God’s master stroke, I didn’t try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who He is; then Jesus and what He did—Jesus crucified. I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate—I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it—and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway. God’s Spirit and God’s power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God’s power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else.” 1 Corinthians 2v1-5 (MSG)

One of the instructions we are given as believers is to go into the world and preach the gospel. Sometimes we find it hard and are frightened about how we would be perceived and how the Word will be accepted. Even the apostle Paul felt the same way as we see above. But the message still came through anyway. How? By the Spirit and power of God. In Acts 1v8 (AMP) the Lord Jesus had said that “But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.” Another thing I learnt from Paul here is he kept the message simple. He told them – about Jesus, who He was, then Jesus and what He did – Jesus crucified. There is power in the Gospel. It may seem simple, but that is the message of the cross.

Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for Your Word. We thank You for Your Spirit and Your power. We pray You will fill us up today with Your Spirit and Your power and make us effective and bold witnesses to the glory of Your name in Jesus name, amen.
