The Stability of Faith (3)

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Yesterday, I heard a testimony, and in speaking with the person who shared it, the verse on resisting the devil being steadfast in faith came to mind. 1 Peter 5v7-8 (Classic Amplified Version) says: “Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.”

As we see in the verses above, the enemy will come as a roaring lion. His roar enough being able to terrify people. But the response the Bible says we should have is that we should be firm – don’t shake, stay strong, be immoveable, be determined, be rooted. The Word of God gives us the basis for our faith, and strength. That is what we use to fight back. Ephesians 6v16-17 (Classic Amplified Bible) says “Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.”

When we are faced with an onslaught from the enemy, we stand strong in faith, determined and immovable and use the Word of God as our weapon. We saw our Lord Jesus constantly respond to the enemy’s temptations with the Word of God, saying “It is written.” We also see the example of Abraham, who had a Word from God and held onto it, till the promise came: “So, when God told Abraham that He would give him a son who would have many descendants and become a great nation, Abraham believed God even though such a promise just couldn’t come to pass! And because his faith was strong, he didn’t worry about the fact that he was too old to be a father at the age of one hundred, and that Sarah his wife, at ninety, was also much too old to have a baby. But Abraham never doubted. He believed God, for his faith and trust grew ever stronger, and he praised God for this blessing even before it happened. He was completely sure that God was well able to do anything He promised.” (Romans 4v18-21, The Living Bible).

Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your Word. Help me to always stay strong, immovable and unshakeable in my faith, in Jesus name, amen.
