A Deep Search
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling
in the Lord. Yesterday, we looked at this passage: 1 John 2v15-17 (New International
Version) says “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone
loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For
everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the
world. The world and its desires pass
away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” We considered that
the love for the world can creep in subtly; and as believers we need to be
careful to guard against it. One way of guarding against it is by continual
fellowship with the brethren who are able to encourage, admonish, urge and warn
us.
Because the heart can be deceitful though, we can
assume then that one can be going in the wrong direction and think they are
fine. Thankfully, the Lord can see our hearts. Jeremiah 17v9-10 (The Living
Bible) says “The heart is the most deceitful thing there is and desperately
wicked. No one can really know how bad it is! Only the Lord knows! He
searches all hearts and examines deepest motives so He can give to each person
his right reward, according to his deeds—how he has lived.”
We see the Psalmist in Psalm 139v23-24 (King
James Version ) pray to the Lord saying: “Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and
lead me in the way everlasting.” The Message translation puts it this way “Investigate
my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get
a clear picture of what I’m about; See for Yourself whether I’ve done anything
wrong— then guide me on the road to eternal life.”
Prayer
Lord, that is our prayer as well today. Search us
thoroughly o God, investigate our lives and our hearts, see if there is any
wicked way, anything that offends You, anything we have done wrong; Father see
if we are deviating from Your path, and lead us in the way to eternal life.
Restore us to our first love o God. Help us to honour You in all that we do,
and let Your name be glorified forevermore in Jesus name, amen.
