Add Self-Control (2)

Dearly beloved, I hope this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We continue considering that God will have us add self-control to knowledge, virtue, and the faith that we have (2 Peter 1v6). We need to be able to restrain and control ourselves as children of God. The wonderful thing is that even in this area, God did not leave us without help. 2 Timothy 1v7 (AMPC) says “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” Hallelujah!!!

Furthermore, Galatians 5v22-23 (AMPC) says “But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].” The Passion Translation refers to it as strength of spirit, while the Message puts it as being able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Galatians 5v16 (NIV) further says “So I say, walk in the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” The Holy Spirit helps us to have self-control. Let’s continue to yield to Him, and confess that indeed we have a well-balanced mind, and discipline, and self-control, we have self-restraint, continence, strength of spirit, and the ability to marshal and direct our energies wisely in Jesus name, amen.

Prayer
Father, we thank You for You are good. Thank You for You want us to be self-controlled and have given us a Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind. Thank You because Holy Spirit You produce the fruit of self-control in us. We yield to You Spirit of Truth. Help us to live our lives to please the Lord in Jesus name, amen.
