Add Patience (Endurance) [2]
Dearly Beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. We continue our
study on the need to develop patience. We saw patience as “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems
or sufferings without becoming annoyed or anxious.” In different parts of
scripture, God talks about patience – our need for it and its characteristics.
For example, we find that patience is one of the attributes of love (1
Corinthians 13). How many of us truly demonstrate this attribute of love when
we say we love others? Ephesians 4v2 (NLT) encourages us by saying “Always be
humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s
faults because of your love.”
We also need patience when it comes to getting God’s promise. Hebrews 10v36 (KJV) says “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye
have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” Oh, we have need of patience (an even
temper, forbearance) for different dimensions of our lives. How many people
give up on the verge of their breakthrough because they wouldn’t be patient and enduring. Hebrews 6v12 (NIV) tells us “We do
not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and
patience inherit what has been promised.” Lamentations 3v24-26 (AMPC) says “The Lord is my portion or share, says
my living being (my inner self); therefore will I hope in Him and wait
expectantly for Him. [Num 18:20.] The Lord is good to those who wait hopefully
and expectantly for Him, to those who seek Him [inquire of and for Him and
require Him by right of necessity and on the authority of God’s word]. It is
good that one should hope in and wait quietly for the salvation (the safety and
ease) of the Lord.” God will always come through for us, but are we prepared to
hold onto Him patiently and expectantly?
Prayer
Father, we thank You so much for this day. We thank You for Your love
and mercy. We ask for grace to be patient, to endure, to hold on without
complaining or grumbling, that we might receive Your every promise for us in
Jesus name, amen.
