Let Love Abound (2)
Dearly beloved, I trust this finds you well and bubbling in the Lord. Today,
we continue to look at Philippians 1v9-10 which says “And this I pray: that your love may abound yet more and more and extend
to its fullest development in knowledge and all keen insight [that your love
may display itself in greater depth of acquaintance and more comprehensive
discernment],” So
that you may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize
what is excellent and of real value [recognizing the highest
and the best, and distinguishing the moral differences], and that you may be
untainted and pure and unerring and blameless
[so that with hearts sincere and certain and unsullied, you may approach] the
day of Christ [not stumbling nor causing others to stumble].”
I find it fascinating that the Bible tells
us that love abounds and should grow in knowledge and keen insight. As the Message
Bible puts it, says not only for us to love, but to love well. I am praying for
more insight into what this means, but I know for example that 1 Corinthians 13
talks about the characteristics of love. Love is patient, love is kind, not
rude, e.t.c. That text also tells us that love doesn’t rejoice in iniquity, but
rejoices when right and truth prevail. Imagine that being a characteristic of
love. God is love and He would have us to love others, but we need to make sure
that we love well. When this happens, we
would be able to approve things that are excellent, discern what is best, and
be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ.
Prayer
Father, we thank You for Your Word.
We pray that our love will abound yet more and more and that it would grow in
spiritual knowledge and discernment, that we will clearly be able to
distinguish between what is right and wrong, and we will be pure and blameless
till Jesus returns in Jesus name, amen.
