Be Pitiful!

Hello everyone,

How are you doing on this day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord.

Primary Text
“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful …” 1 Peter 3v8 (KJV)

The apostle Peter inspired by the Holy Spirit writes that we should be pitiful, or “be sympathetic” (NIV); “sympathizing [with one another]” (AMP). Our God is full of pity for us. Psalm 103v13-14 (AMP) “As a father loves and pities his children, so the Lord loves and pities those who fear Him [with reverence, worship, and awe]. For He knows our frame, He [earnestly] remembers and imprints [on His heart] that we are dust.” The Bible encourages us to also be pitiful, be sympathetic towards one another. One relationship where this is highlighted is between husbands towards wives, Colossians 3v19 (AMP) saying “Husbands, love your wives [be affectionate and sympathetic with them] and do not be harsh or bitter or resentful toward them.” The wonderful thing for us is that Hebrews 2v17-18 (AMP) tells us “So it is evident that it was essential that He be made like His brethren in every respect, in order that He might become a merciful (sympathetic) and faithful High Priest in things related to God, to make atonement and propitiation for the people’s sins. For because He Himself [in His humanity] has suffered in being tempted (tested and tried), He is able [immediately] to run to the cry of (assist, relieve) those who are being tempted and tested and tried [and who therefore are being exposed to suffering].” Thus we can say Jesus has been in the positions of trials and temptations that we face, and so He understands and can help us through them. Let’s also be sympathetic towards others, being pitiful, putting ourselves in their position, and loving them as we would ourselves (Mark 12v31).
Supplementary Text
“But love your enemies and be kind and do good [doing favors so that someone derives benefit from them] and lend, expecting and hoping for nothing in return but considering nothing as lost and despairing of no one; and then your recompense (your reward) will be great (rich, strong, intense, and abundant), and you will be sons of the Most High, for He is kind and charitable and good to the ungrateful and the selfish and wicked. So be merciful (sympathetic, tender, responsive, and compassionate) even as your Father is [all these].” Luke 6v35-36 (AMP)
Father, I thank You for You are good and You are a wonderful God and Father. Thank You because You would have us be merciful, sympathetic, tender, responsive and compassionate even as You are. Thank You for as many as believe in Jesus, have received the power to be sons of God. May we walk even as You would have us do, by the power of Your Spirit indwelling in us in Jesus name, amen.
