Desiring God
Hello everyone,
How are you doing on this
day? I hope well and bubbling in the Lord. Perhaps you are in a situation where
you think, I want to love God more, I want to deepen my intimacy with Him, I
want to desire Him more, but you are not sure how to go about it. Well, we need
to realise that though part of it rests with us, there are somethings that are
out of our hands. 1 John 4v19 (King James Version) says “We love Him because He
first loved us.”
Ephesians 5v25-29 (The
Living Bible) expands more on the love of God, saying “And you husbands, show
the same kind of love to your wives as Christ showed to the Church when He died
for her, to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God’s Word; so
that He could give her to himself as a glorious Church without a single spot or
wrinkle or any other blemish, being holy and without a single fault. That
is how husbands should treat their wives, loving them as parts of themselves.
For since a man and his wife are now one, a man is really doing himself a favor
and loving himself when he loves his wife! No one
hates his own body but lovingly cares for it, just as Christ cares for His body
the Church, of which we are parts.” It’s like we are the bride of Christ who He
woos and who we care for.
When we give our lives and
hearts to Him, we are put in a position where we can begin to please Him. Before
then we couldn’t please Him, and we definitely couldn’t love Him, for remember without
faith, it is impossible to please God. They that come to the Father must
believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him
(Hebrews 11v6). Romans 8v8-9 (Classic Amplified Version) also tells us that “So
then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and
impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be
acceptable to Him. But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living
the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you
[directs and controls you]. But if anyone does not possess the [Holy] Spirit of
Christ, he is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child
of God].”
That said, we can desire greater
intimacy and knowledge of Him. We can take steps to ensure that we are not
enstranged from Him but know Him more. The Psalmist in Psalm 42v1-2 (New
International Version) expresses his desire this way “As the deer pants for
streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for
God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
Prayer
Father, we thank You for
Your Word this day. We want to know You more. We long for You. We thirst for
You. Reveal Yourself to us, let us enjoy deep intimacy with the Spirit, and
with You in Jesus name, amen.
